Electro-Chemical Activation

Electro-Chemical Activation (ECA). ECA technology was first invented in Russia and has been under development for over 40 years. The activation process uses water, salt and electricity and produces a potent and natural disinfectant and detergent. Microbes, like other living things need a stable energy supply to survive. ECA destabilizes and elevates the electrical charge of the water and creates an environment in which microbes cannot survive & kills bacteria, virus, yeast, mould and COVID within a matter of seconds.

How does ECA work in AQUOX generators

AQUOX generators are capable of generating neutral-to-acidic electrolyzed water (anolyte) for cleaning & sanitation & for water disinfection. The anolyte is composed primarily of the free chlorine molecule hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a powerful oxidant.

Electrolysis is a popular technology but the generated solution can be highly variable depending on many factors such as the quality of the electrolysis cells, the chemistry of the additive, and the software settings of the electrolyzer systems. AQUOX brings the highest quality electrolysis cells and has identified the optimal formulas & settings of voltage, amperage, & flow rates for our systems to generate the highest quality solutions of HOCl for food sanitation, general sanitation, water disinfection & more.

A typical Water Disinfection system led by AQUOX

The EW solutions produced by AQUOX generators (Anolyte and Catholyte) are channelled through canals & chambers & separated by the membranes. This unique patented process allows for more even distribution of electrolyte (brine solution) within the volumes of the chambers and reduces the risk of the formation of stagnant zones when flow rates of electrolyte are high. The construction of the diaphragmatic cells also allows highly effective evacuation of products of electrochemical & chemical reactions from the chambers.

How Does it Work?

Every AQUOX water disinfecting system consists of:

• AQUOX unit (one or more)
• Containers for Anolyte and NaCl solution
• Dosing pump(s) with FAC or ORP controller

Anolyte produced by AQUOX unit is collected in a container & then dosed into the incoming water (see above). The dosing regime depends on the water flow & quality (properties) of the source water & is controlled by either flow meter or FAC/ORP controller connected with dosing pump.

How is disinfection achieved?

Aqueous solution of NaCl, electrochemically activated in AQUOX unit, a powerful, non-toxic, non-hazardous disinfectant called Anolyte is the main disinfecting agent in any EWDS. Anolyte is a colourless transparent liquid with a slight chlorine smell. It contains various mixed oxidants predominantly hypochlorous acid which give Anolyte highly bactericidal & sporicidal activity.

Anolyte parameters

• pH from 2.0 to 8.5
• Concentration (general) of active chlorine 100-6000 mg/l
• Very high oxidant activity with low (hundreds parts of percentage) concentrations of working substances that don’t harm chemical & other vital characteristics of the treated water & don’t form any toxic compounds.
